I was born into a family of artists who happened to love to garden. My childhood was spent with my toes in the dirt and my hands in the paint…or on a camera…or in a mound of clay. We always grew our own veggies as well as some treasured flowers. My dad tended his beloved dinner plate dahlias and his grandmother’s heirloom peonies while my mom nurtured her woodland ferns and delicate bleeding hearts in her shade garden. I was taught to see the art in nature and that has shaped the way that I chose to live and the unique, multi-faceted business that I’ve created. I love beauty and I feel strongly that everyone should infuse their days with at least one beautiful moment. A moment that serves no practical purpose. It won’t nourish your body but it certainly will your soul. The whole premise of Frivolity Flowers is that frivolity is an essential part of living. The artist and the gardener in me, wants to teach you to recognize the beauty around you and to incorporate that beauty into your day to day be it a vase of flowers on your table or a special photo shoot during a magic-filled evening.

About my husband

aka the brains and the braun

My husband, Conrad, is the rock of this operation. We fell in love because we are both daydreamers by nature. But while I romanticize the dream and tend to have my head in the clouds, he approaches everything with his feet firmly planted and a solid vision of how to accomplish a goal. He keeps things running orderly with his practical nature. He is also a partner in a local, commercial contracting business and his construction background is invaluable to me. He gets put to work on greenhouses, garden benches, raised flower beds, sprinkler systems and any other task requiring a little more muscle than I can (or want) to put forth. He also gets to use the side of his brain that loves numbers in order to handle my accounting for me. There’s a whole portion of my business that I could not do without him.

about my

kids

aka the bug collectors and seed planters

My three little munchkins; Trace Lane, Brooke Rylee and Lorelai Rose all participate in their mom’s flower obsession. They help plant seeds, pick flowers and relocate lady bugs from wherever they find them to whichever plant mom says has the biggest pest problem. The enthusiasm they demonstrate for the magic of a growing garden reminds me of my own childhood and the way I felt watching the seeds that I had poked into the ground spring forth into plants. They keep me rooted in the magic of a garden when the workload can easily sidetrack me from pausing to admire a butterfly or from taking time to sit and read a book under the canopy of flowers. They are all that is pure and good and wholesome in my world and they motivate me daily to continue my mission of making their world a little more beautiful.
